Yellow-headed Blackbird

David and I decided to go on a walk at a park in Orem on Sunday. We had been to the park before and it has beautiful grass and paths. The park has a pond with various birds and fish in it. We discovered these beautiful bushes with pink flowers on them that were very fragrant that we will have in our yard someday.
Anyway, on our walk we decided to sit on some rocks next to the pond. We watched the ducks teaching the baby ducks to swim and preen themselves. In the middle of the pond there is a bunch of cattails (or something similar) full of birds. We were fascinated by the many yellow-headed blackbirds. Above is a picture of a male. Below is a picture of the female. We just sat and chatted for a few minutes when a female yellow-headed blackbird flew a little too close for comfort by me. David laughed as a buried my hooded head in his shoulder. We continued talking and joking around when this bird came back around and dived directly for us! It was terrifying!! We got up and started walking away as it came by one last time. Apparently we were still too close to this female for her comfort. I am guessing she had a nest nearby, but we couldn't see it and she just went back to the middle of the pond to her cattail perch. Across the pond from us were a couple of boys who found this act pretty entertaining. It was scary. I kept imagining this horrifying image from a time we were flipping through the channels on T.V. The image I was picturing was of these huge blackbirds that had lunged after sheep and burrowed into their backs and sucked their blood/ate their flesh. TERRIFYING! Luckily for us, we came away from our Sunday stroll unscathed by the dive-bombing mama bird.

More of Our Adventures...

Apparently my post was too big? I am not sure, but here are some more of our happenings...

More delicious food.... Kabobs!

*My parents bought me the Wii game "Just Dance" for a graduation present. It is so fun! We even got my parents and Kamille to dance with us!!

*We are headed up to Washington soon for a vacation and of course David NEEDS to fish and since I have never technically have fished, he had to make sure I know how. So he planned this date and made me close my eyes. We ended up at this park we like with fishing gear... He taught me how to cast and reel... I don't even know what I am talking about! haha Anyway, he had drawn various types of fish on construction paper.  I had to catch each of them and could only keep a certain number of them.  On the back of the paper he had written down different activities.  The fish I kept determined what we did the rest of our date.  We ended up going to the MOA and then eating at Magleby's Fresh.

* I survived my first year of teaching!! I taught fourth grade.  I loved it most days, but some days were a bit harder... We started with the ceiling collapsing and flooding my room and ended with moving my stuff into a classroom into the school where I will be teaching fifth grade next year!

*We went on our annual Hogle Zoo date! This started one year ago when David had to go identify birds for his biology class. We had a fun time, so we planned and went again.

Right after we got into the zoo, two men came up behind us and one said, "What up [bad slang for an African American]?" Both of us unsure of what to do, warily turned around.  The same man said to me, "You have beautiful blue eyes [female dog]!" We turned around and they walked past as the man repeated that last word over and over.  He had Tourette's Syndrome or something that caused him to have tics.  The man he was with was a sketchy looking tattooed/pierced up fellow. As he walked away, it made me sad that saying bad things like that had been reinforced throughout his life.
Anyway, back to our zoo trip....

This was the duck we stared at as the men passed.... These monkeys were so funny! They were more of them, but the littlest one kept picking on the others and then would climb and run away as the bigger ones (who didn't want to play as much) would chase him and pull on his tail.
All of the big cats were pacing...
Dorks!
The baby elephant, Zuri!
This peacock liked David I supposed because we were the only ones around and he started showing off his plumage.... :) We got a cool video of him coming closer and shaking his tail end. haha

We also ate a picnic in the park, visited a big cathedral, walked around the Gateway Mall in the rain, and stopped at Ikea!

Some of Our Adventures

Well, we haven't mastered blogging yet, but here are some of the things we've been up to....

*We went to a few BYU baseball games and one BYU softball game.  David and I liked the softball game because we actually won... :)

*We found this neat little place to watch birds.

* I graduated from BYU! I am now a licensed teacher for grades 1-8 in Utah.
 * I taught David how to do a straight stitch on the sewing machine.  He made rice hot/cold pads.

*David played on BYUB's intramural men softball team.
They were undefeated in the regular season. We won't talk about the tournament play...

*As part of our one year anniversary celebration, David took me on a train ride! He would talk about how he traveled by train his whole mission and I would always say, "I've never been on a train."
Now I can't say that anymore! It was a beautiful day and we had a fun time.  We rode inside half of the ride and outside the second half.

*David was in charge of the Mother's Day gift in our ward.  His first counselor and his wife helped us to dip HUGE strawberries in delicious chocolate.  David and I way overestimated and got way too many strawberries. Hey, we found them at an amazing price! So, we made strawberry freezer jam. YUM!
*We made lots of tasty food.... :)
http://howtomakesalsa.com/ We added some diced green pepper and some ground black pepper. Yummy!
Key lime pie! This was my first time making/having it.  David had to squeeze all the limes for me.  It was also a first time making meringue! It was tasty, tasty.

Text Conversation

Text from David after school today, "Yeah well all I want to do is see you crap."

I am thinking, that's disgusting. What did he mean to say? So I respond, "See me crap?"
David, "Huh? You are scaring me."

Me, "That's what you said!"

David, "Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! That is so funny.  I typed asap but it comes up as crap first. Haha!! I can't stop laughing. All I want to do is see you crap! Haha!"

Deidra, "I know. I am so funny."

David, "I know it was an accident. But when I read it again it was so funny! Especially because how you replied and I didn't know what was going on. Haha!

David, "Yeah I keep laughing so I'm trying to stop it because I am in the lab. I laughed out loud. That kills me so bad."

Deidra, "Haha me too! We are silly. "

David, "Seriously. We are a riot. We should tell people about this."

So that's what I did.

Can YOU paint with all the colors of the wind?

This is a most important discovery. Deidra and I know why we were meant to be together. I am writing this blog only minutes after one of those late night weird conversations about childhood memories. I revealed to Deidra that as a child, my parents bought us the Pocahontas soundtrack audio tape/sing along booklet. I wore out that tape by playing it over and over in my hand-me-down Walkman that I got from my older brother. Deidra had the SAME EXACT TAPE AND BOOK!!!! Obviously, that means something. It says something about our relationship. So here is to us and to all of you Disney lovers out there.

Scott & Kylie

One of David's best friends invited us to be a part of the most important day of his life.  On April 10th, 2010 Scott was sealed to the beautiful Kylie in the Salt Lake temple.  The ceremony was beautiful.

David and I celebrate our 1st Anniversary this coming Saturday.  It was neat to reflect back on our experiences over the past year and to be reminded of the covenants we made with God and the advice and counsel we received just a year ago.  I am happy that David chose to be with me for eternity.  Over the past year it seems that my capacity to feel joy has greatly increased as I have grown closer to my husband and the Lord.  I love David so much.  I never knew that I could be treated this well and have never made a better decision.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

We have a new addition in our family, a Nintendo Wii! David wanted a Playstation 2 more that anything. On Craigslist, we found a used one with 9 games or something for a pretty good deal. I emailed the seller and was planning on picking it up after work to surprise David. The more I thought about it throughout the day, the less I wanted it... haha I talked to David about it and we decided that if we were going to get a gaming system, we wanted a Wii. The next day we got our federal tax return and decided to check around for the best deal. Basically everyone sells it for about the same price. Best Buy was our decision and we purchased our Wii in a packaged deal along with two remotes with motion plus, two nunchucks, a charging station, Wii Sports, and Wii Sports Resort. David is hooked!
This past weekend David's parents visited! It was fun to have company and we even got them to try out the Wii! They brought me a graduation gift and brought us an Easter basket. My mom also sent an Easter basket down with Derek, so we are loaded with treats. Thanks for everything, parents! These were fun little bird's nest treats I made...
David wanted to try to paint eggs this Easter. We blew out the eggs, dyed them pastel colors, and then attempted to paint. Our eggs had nothing on the ones he saw in Slovakia on his mission... We lost interest pretty fast. The best egg was painted by David's mom, Tracey.
