When the moon hits your eye, like a big PIZZA PIE...

Warning: This post is me bragging!
David and I have made two pizzas in our lifetime together. They have both been amazing. Made from scratch (dough and sauce) with our favorite toppings, bell peppers and pepperoni, they have been delightful! Yum!
I must be an AMAZING teacher because look at the size of that apple! I am now realizing that I should have put that apple next to something that provides better perspective for the picture... Oh well, it has long since rotted. I am always afraid to eat the concoctions that my students bring me and I am not a fan of red delicious apples. I do love apples and a few hungry days, a student has saved me from becoming grumpy! It is always sweet when a student brings me surprises. I still have no idea where this "bring your teacher an apple" thing started, but it must mean that they like me, right?!

...Bells'll ring
Ting-a-ling-a-ling
Ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "Vita bella"
Hearts'll play
Tippi-tippi-tay
Tippi-tippi-tay
Like a gay tarantella

Delights of First Year Teaching

My portable/duplex shared with Mrs. Martin (another 4th grade intern).
I came back from the long Labor Day Weekend to find it had snowed in my classroom!
But wait, are those ceiling tiles?!
The sky has fallen, the sky has fallen! We must tell the President!
The entire classroom is flooded...and smells of wet dogs.

Light fixtures are hanging down.
What did we do? We held class in the "Little Theater"!

My wet floorboards with no more cupboards. :(

Unfortunately our swamp cooler had been leaking all school year. Fortunately each day I would update our janitor on the status of our room and each day he would be up on the roof working on it. Fortunately the week before Labor Day it wasn't leaking... at least not onto the floor. Unfortunately it was leaking into the ceiling causing the ceiling to fall down and continue leaking onto our floor over the weekend. Fortunately I discovered it. Unfortunately I had to inform the principal. Fortunately the kids loved having class in the Little Theater. Unfortunately we had no regular teaching materials for a week. Fortunately we moved back in on Monday and have a new ceiling and new carpet!

Oh the joys of teaching in a portable!

And so it begins...

Well it has finally happened. We started a blog. Now everyone can be filled in on the wonderful happenings of our new family. Things have been going so fast for us lately. Deidra started he internship at Spanish Oaks Elementary and today is the first day of class! She is going to have 26 new 4th graders coming in today. Actually, it is happening as I write this post. That is really exciting and has also been nerve-racking for Deidra. But she has been working like crazy to get everything ready for this day. She had a lot of the kids in yesterday with their parents on back-to-school day and the kids are excited. She has a really cool outer space theme (which I had a little part in coming up with and which I feel a bit proud of) and every time I went in to help her the class looked more and more like I remember 4th grade. I think that it is funny that she is teaching 4th grade because I still remember 4th grade being one of my favorite years and Mrs. Woods being still one of my favorite teachers.

I am doing well also. I have been working at BYU Broadcasting for a year now and I have been moved up to a student manager. What that basically means is that I am an assistant to a supervisor and I help make schedules and track workflows along with my normal duties. I have been working as an editor for a show called Living Essentials from BYU. Don't worry. You don't have to look it up. It is a sort of provident living/social issues talk show. I was put on it earlier because they needed somebody to be the head editor and I had more free time at work before I was promoted. Now I am a lot more busy and I will be training a new editor to take my place. That way I can work more on my student managing. I know, it sounds like the most amazing job and that I am such a cool person, but really it isn't all that glamorous. But I have really liked working here and it is a fulfillment of a high school dream to really be working in television. I am going back to school and starting my major in less than two weeks and I am really excited. I am in the Communication Studies major.

We feel really blessed right now. Things are crazy and difficult sometimes, but everything has been going really well for us. Hopefully, at the request of my sister, I will be able to get some good wedding pictures posted up here and share that with you.
